on the sofa,
I read aloud
from their favorite books.
It's been a full day
for two tired boys,
and their little heads, heavy with sleep,
lean against my shoulders.
The story is only
halfway read,
when I know they both
have slipped away
to their dreaming place.
But I keep my voice low
and continue to read.
Should one or the other
partially wake,
as sometimes happens
when sleep is new,
I want them to think
that nothing's changed
in their little world,
so they'll feel safe.
Or maybe I just want
to lengthen the stay
of two small heads
leaning on me,
while I pretend
my world, too,
hasn't changed.

Well, it is Sunday and I will come over and lean my head on your shoulder and fall asleep while you read. That sounds so fun to me. I love those little heads on my shoulders too! How sweet. Have a nice week. Sandi
These little guys are so cute! Are they going back to school this week? Great poem. Mumzie

Made me cry... I had my Little Bear at LEAST twice a week from the time he was born until he turned 5, and then my Son had to move for his job and I only get to see him once a month or every 6 weeks or so... He LOVED being read to and snuggled with. I miss him so much!
You are so blessed to have them there to spend time with you! Linda
